Start Guide:
The following is a quick start guide to the use of the FastCAM
software suite. The suite is divided into the following modules:-
FastCAM: Drawing Editor
FastNEST:Nesting/Optimization
FastPATH :Automatic tool path generation
FastPLOT: NC code verification/editing
Step 1: Part Drawing preparation
Preparing the Part Drawing can usually be split into 2 common methods:-
1. DXF/DWG file created via AutoCAD or other CAD software.
2. CAM file created by drawing the part within FastCAM AutoCAD/other CAD software not required) Please refer to the electronic FastCAM manual and training tutorial for details.
Step 2: Tool Path generation
Tool Pathing (or creating NC file) can be done on a single part using FastCAM or on an entire Nest using FastNEST. It can either be done manually or automatically using FastPATH. We will go through the FastPATH progress.
Step 3: NC Code verification
To ensure that the output NC code is correct and will produce correctly cut parts FastPLOT can be used to verify visually the completed Nest and by code. It is a recommended step for all FastCAM users
Note: If preset FastNEST will automatically question the user to Verify the program in FastPLOT.
The NC program once in FastPLOT can be followed (or traced) through using the ‘Plot Up To’ button on the toolbar. A single key press or click of the mouse will step through the program one line of code at a time. To move faster through, just hold down the mouse button or key. The code on the right hand side will scroll as the Nest appears on the left. If any errors are found they can be corrected by altering the code if desired.
